Vizianagaram

Vizianagaram, Vizianagram, or Vijayanagaram (विजयनगर) was a princely state in India, situated in the northern part of present-day Andhra Pradesh state, India.

Title of the prince: Maharaja.

Dynasty: Pusapati.

Religion: Hindu.

Area: 362,6 square kilometers.

Population: 900,000 people in the year 1901.

Current head of the dynasty: Maharaja Sahib Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Maharaja of Vizianagaram.

History: Raja Vijayaram Raj established Vizianagaram as a sovereign state in 1711, becoming independent from Jeypore. The foundations for the city and fort of Vizianagaram were laid in 1713. The ruling family belonged to the Pusapati dynasty, a Rajput family claiming Suryavanshi (solar) lineage. The rulers adopted the title of Maharaja and were prominent patrons of art, education, and sports.

After the Battle of Padmanabham, Vizianagaram was reduced from a Princely State to a Zamindari estate under British administration.

The current titular Maharaja of Vizianagaram, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, born in 1951, succeeded his brother in 2016. Both were sons of the last reigning sovereign, Pusapati Vijayrama Gajapathi Raju V, the 15th Maharaja of Vizianagaram.

Pusapati Ashok is married and is the father of two daughters. He served as the Minister of Civil Aviation of India. His successor is unknown.

The royal family of Vizianagaram holds a foundation that manages several palaces and 108 temples.

Valdara (वलदरा) was a small state, designated as a Thikana, located in Rajasthan, India. Title of the prince:  Thakur . Dynasty:  Rathore , clan Sindhal. Religion: Hindu. Area: unknown. Population: unknown. Current head of the dynasty:  Thakore Sahib Samdar Singhji.  History: The descendants of Maharaja Ajeet Singhji (1707-1724) of Marwar formed several thikanas, including Jalwana and Valdara.
