Virpur

Virpur (वीरपुर) was a princely state situated in the historical region of Saurashtra/Kathiawar. Its capital was Virpur. Today, it is part of the state of Gujarat, in India.

Title of the prince: Thakore.

Dynasty: Jadeja.

Religion: Hindu.

Area: 171 square kilometers. It included 13 villages.

Population: 8,594 people in the year 1941.

Current head of the dynasty: Jaduvendrasinhji Narendrasinhji Jadeja, Thakore Saheb of Virpur.

History: The ruling family of Virpur descends from the Nawanagar House. Jam Vibhaji I of Nawanagar granted 12 villages to his second son, Bhaniji. Subsequently, Bhaniji had other lands recognized and granted to him by the Thanadar (Muslim governor) of Kharedi. Mokoji, the 7th generation descendant of Bhaniji, expelled the Thanadar of Kharedi and expanded his lands to Virpur. It was a Fourth Class state under British rule. It acceded to India in 1947.

Succession in the family follows the principle of agnatic primogeniture. The current Thakore of Virpur succeeded his elder brother as the 17th Thakore Saheb in 2019. Jaduvendrasinhji Narendrasinhji Jadeja, born in 1965, is married to Princess Chand Kanwar, daughter of the Maharaja of Raoti. They have two children: a son, Kumar Shri Devendrasinhji Jaduvendrasinhji Jadeja, and a daughter, Kumari Shalini Devi Jadeja.

Varsoda

Varsoda (वरसोदा) was a princely state located in the Mansa district, Gujarat, on the bank of the Sabarmati River. During the British Raj, it belonged to the Sabar Kantha Agency of the Bombay Presidency. Today, it is part of the state of Gujarat. Title of the prince: Thakore . Dynasty: Chavda . Religion: Hindu. Area: 28 square kilometers, and 4 villages. Population: 4,051 people (1892). Current head of the dynasty: Thakore Jayvijay Sinhji Chavda , Thakore saheb of Varsoda. History: The Varsoda dynasty descends from Surajmalji, the son of Jaya Sinhji, who received a part of the Ambasan estate upon his father's death. It belonged to the Chavda dynasty, one of the most important Rajput clans. Varsoda paid tribute to the state of Baroda. The last reigning Thakor was Jorawarsinhji Surajmalji, Thakor of Varsoda from 1919 to 1948. Currently, Jayvijay Sinhji Chavda is the Thakor of Varsoda.
