Vijayanagar (Bombay)

Vijayanagara or Vijaynagar (विजयनगर) is the name of two different kingdoms that were located in present-day India. One of them was a princely state that, under British rule, was included in the so-called Bombay Presidency and is currently in the state of Gujarat.

Title of the prince: Rao Sahib.

Dynasty: Rathore.

Religion: Hindu.

Area: 350 square kilometers.

Population: 13,942 (1941).

Current head of the dynasty: Rao Sahib Shri Vijay Vardhan Singhji, Rao Shri of Vijayanagar.

History: The Rathore clan of the Rajputs claims its descent from Jeychand, the last Rathore Rajput Chief of Kanauj (1193).

The branch we are concerned with reigned in Idar until they were expelled by the Mughals in the 17th century. Around 1720, Chandra Singh, a grandson of the former monarch of Idar, recovered the territories of Pol and Vijaynagar.

The Princely State of Vijayanagar was established in 1852 under Rao Vijayarang Gajapati Raj. It was integrated into India in 1947.

The current head of the royal family, Rao Shri of Vijayanagar, is Rao Sahib Shri Vijay Vardhan Singhji, born in 1962, married Kavrani Asha Kumari, daughter of Thakur Shri Karan Singhji of Khejarla, and has issue, one son and two daughters. The heir is his son Rajkumar Vishva Vardhan Singh Rathore, born in 1993.

Varsoda

Varsoda (वरसोदा) was a princely state located in the Mansa district, Gujarat, on the bank of the Sabarmati River. During the British Raj, it belonged to the Sabar Kantha Agency of the Bombay Presidency. Today, it is part of the state of Gujarat. Title of the prince: Thakore . Dynasty: Chavda . Religion: Hindu. Area: 28 square kilometers, and 4 villages. Population: 4,051 people (1892). Current head of the dynasty: Thakore Jayvijay Sinhji Chavda , Thakore saheb of Varsoda. History: The Varsoda dynasty descends from Surajmalji, the son of Jaya Sinhji, who received a part of the Ambasan estate upon his father's death. It belonged to the Chavda dynasty, one of the most important Rajput clans. Varsoda paid tribute to the state of Baroda. The last reigning Thakor was Jorawarsinhji Surajmalji, Thakor of Varsoda from 1919 to 1948. Currently, Jayvijay Sinhji Chavda is the Thakor of Varsoda.
