Vav

Vav (वाव) was a princely state located in the Kathiawar Peninsula and was part of the Palanpur Agency, under the Bombay Presidency during the British Raj. In 1925, this agency became the Banas Kantha Agency. Currently, it is in the Vav-Tharad district, in the state of Gujarat, India.

Title of the prince: Rana Saheb.

Dynasty: Chauhan.

Religion: Hindu.

Area: 140 square kilometers and 22 villages.

Population: 8,286 people (1901).

Current head of the dynasty: Rana Saheb Gajendra Singhji Chauhan, Rana Saheb of Vav.

History: the rulers of Vav hold the title of Rana. They claim kinship with Prithviraj Chauhan, a significant figure in Rajput history, and originate from Rajasthan. The Ranas of Vav settled in Tharad.

Rana Punja, a descendant of the early rulers, died in battle at the hands of Muslims in 1283. His son, Rana Vaja, managed to recover part of their lost territory thanks to the influence of his father-in-law, the Raval of Jaisalmer, but they lost Tharad, which led them to choose Vav as their new capital.

In 1819-20, under the command of Rana Umedsinh, Vav became a British protectorate.

The princely state of Vav acceded to India in 1947.

The current Rana Saheb of Vav, Gajendra Singhji Chauhan, is married and has one son and heir: Prince Yuvraj Saheb Shivraj Singhji Chauhan.

Varsoda

Varsoda (वरसोदा) was a princely state located in the Mansa district, Gujarat, on the bank of the Sabarmati River. During the British Raj, it belonged to the Sabar Kantha Agency of the Bombay Presidency. Today, it is part of the state of Gujarat. Title of the prince: Thakore . Dynasty: Chavda . Religion: Hindu. Area: 28 square kilometers, and 4 villages. Population: 4,051 people (1892). Current head of the dynasty: Thakore Jayvijay Sinhji Chavda , Thakore saheb of Varsoda. History: The Varsoda dynasty descends from Surajmalji, the son of Jaya Sinhji, who received a part of the Ambasan estate upon his father's death. It belonged to the Chavda dynasty, one of the most important Rajput clans. Varsoda paid tribute to the state of Baroda. The last reigning Thakor was Jorawarsinhji Surajmalji, Thakor of Varsoda from 1919 to 1948. Currently, Jayvijay Sinhji Chavda is the Thakor of Varsoda.
